GARY, Ind. — Gary SouthShore RailCats third baseman Tanner Townsend – the owner of virtually every offensive record in franchise history and the 2008 Northern League Player of the Year – has been sold to the Florida Marlins, the team announced today. Townsend, 28, will report to the Marlins’ Spring Training complex in Jupiter, Fla. in February and ends his four-year RailCats tenure as the franchise’s all-time career leader in home runs (39), runs batted in (229) and runs scored (218). Townsend became the first RailCats player to claim Player of the Year honors after setting seven different team records in 2008.

| GOLDEYES DEAL FOR ALL-STAR LONG Winnipeg has acquired its first new player for the 2009 season. Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced the acquisition of the rights to all-star infielder Wes Long and a player to be named later from Windy City of the Frontier League for the rights to pitcher Dustin Pease and cash. Kansas City T-Bones Win 2008 Northern League Championship Game four 5-3 win over defending champion Gary SouthShore RailCats earns T-Bones their first crown.  GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored three times in the ninth inning and put the tying runs on base, but David Trahan wiggled his way to three outs and gave the Kansas City T-Bones the 2008 Northern League Championship with a 5-3 win Tuesday night at U. S. Steel Yard. The T-Bones won the best-of-five championship series three games to one. The T-Bones clinched their first Northern League Title with wins in the last two nights, claiming their first championship since moving to Kansas City in 2003. The RailCats lost in the championship series for the second time in the last four years, sandwiching titles in 2005 and 2007 around four-game losses in 2006 and again this season.

GARY, Ind. – After a three-day rain delay, the Kansas City T-Bones took a 4-0 lead after five innings and held on for a 7-4 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight to pull within one victory of their first Northern League Championship since moving to Kansas City in 2003. The T-Bones now lead the best-of-five series, 2-1.

 GARY, Ind. – For the third straight day game three of the Northern League Championship Series has been postponed due to heavy rains. This afternoon’s game has been pushed back to Monday night and scheduled to begin at 6:00.
| T-Bones' Power Display Evens Series at 1-1 Craig Hurba and Bo Hart smack grand slams to overcome huge deficit; Kansas City bullpen is stellar in relief.  KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Craig Hurba and Bo Hart each hit grand slam home runs as the Kansas City T-Bones erased an early 7-1 deficit and evened the Northern League Championship Series at a game apiece, beating the Gary SouthShore RailCats 12-7 Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The RailCats scored six times in the third inning against Chris Rhoads to put themselves in good position to take the series back to U. S. Steel Yard with a commanding 2-0 lead, but the T-Bones flexed their offensive muscle with a lightning-quick 10-run rally, scoring once in the third, four times in the fourth and five more times in the fifth to jump in front 11-7. The Kansas City bullpen took over from there, with winning pitcher Andy Shipman (1-0), Todd Moser, Brady Martinez and David Trahan combining to throw 6.1 scoreless innings.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Cristian Guerrero hit two home runs and the Gary SouthShore RailCats got four hitless innings from four relievers, beating the Kansas City T-Bones, 7-6 Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in game one of the best-of-five Northern League Championship Series. Guerrero blasted a three-run homer as part of a four-run RailCats third and added what proved to be the game-winning run with a solo shot in the fifth, becoming the first RailCats player to homer twice in a playoff game. |
